Commissioners also said they wanted to do more to require bidders to hire local workers to build the plant. More than 50 protesters held signs outside the authority''''''''s Jog Road headquarters Wednesday, calling on commissioners to do more to force contractors to hire them.
The Palm Beach Post reported last month that two-thirds of the roughly 300 workers hired for a $200 million Authority project came from outside of Palm Beach County. Approximately half came from outside Florida.
"My guys are hurting bad and they need jobs," Sean Mitchell, business manager for the Iron Workers Local 402. "We just want to put our people back to work.
